Workshop on “Developing partnerships and establishing a network of actors around native foods (Neglected-Underutilised Species) for food security in Mozambique”

FEMOZ stakeholder workshop 2023

On September 18th to September 19th FEMOZ organised a workshop in Macaneta, district of Marracuene, Maputo, with project partners, stakeholders, and its local focal points of the project districts Ribáuè, Búzi, and Moamba.

One of the objectives of the event was to discuss with partners and stakeholders the results of the FEMOZ project on Native Foods (edible plants and fruits - Neglected and Underutilised Species, NUS), and to present and work on the current development of the project’s Local Open Online Courses (LOOCs) about Food Environments and again Native Foods. Another important topic of the workshop was the interface with the Mozambican Ministry of Health (MISAU), present in the workshop, about the potential of including the FEMOZ work developed on such NUS in the national food based dietary guideline.
The two-day event sought to explore the potential for establishing a network of NUS actors with the participation of academics and policymakers in the three districts of study. The potential uses for the referred NUS are already documented as well as the laboratory analyses on their nutritional values. Furthermore, several other results of other fields of the FEMOZ project were presented to the workshop participants. The topics included classifications done on the acute food insecurity in rural and urban areas of the three districts, food value chain analysis and the development of food environment related policies in Mozambique.
